The alkyne and the azide in the aqueous solution undergo a click reaction under the catalystion of copper. Polyethylene glycol increases the solubility and stability of the drug, reduces the immunogenicity of the polypeptide and protein, and inhibits the non-specific binding of charged molecules on the modified surface.
