Biotin-PEG-SH

Synonyms: Biotin-polyethylene glycol-SH

The two ends of the Biotin-PEG-SH molecular chain are sulfhydryl group and Biotin molecule, respectively. Biotin is a bioactive small molecule with high affinity for avidin or streptavidin. It can be used on the surface of biotinylated biomolecules or other materials. Biotin can be easily detected by biotin/streptavidin binding assays and is widely used for molecular target detection. Sulfhydryl groups react readily with many mercaptan reactive groups, such as maleimides, haloacetyl groups, or pyridyl disulfides. It can also bind to gold and other precious metals with a high affinity. Thus, the reaction between mercaptan and other groups enables the rapid and specific binding of biotin to proteins, antibodies, peptides, particles, and other material surfaces.
