mPEG-AA can be used to modify polypeptides, proteins and other materials with reactive groups. The carboxyl group can easily form a stable amide bond with an amino group, and can also form an ester bond with a hydroxyl group. Polyethylene glycol can increase solubility and stability. It also inhibits the non-specific binding of the charged molecule to the modified surface by reducing the immunogenicity of the polypeptide and protein.
