AA-PEG-AA has two identical activated carboxyl terminal groups. The carboxyl group reacts with the amino group to modify the molecule. Homobifunctionalized PEG derivatives have wide applications in peptides, proteins, lipids, other small molecules and surface modifications. The PEG is a highly hydrophilic molecule containing a large amount of ethoxy groups, which causes high hydrodynamic volume in aqueous solution.
