The azide functions can be used in click chemistry with terminal alkynes or strained cyclooctynes like BCN or DBCO while the t-butyl ester can be deprotected and made into amides or esters by reacting with amines or alcohols respectively. The PEG spacer provides aqueous solubility and altered DMPK.
