Background
Synonyms: Polyethylene glycol octadecyl ether thiol
C18-PEG-SH is an amphiphilic diblock copolymer. It is a viscous liquid or white solid and needs to be kept away from light at -20℃. The C18 hydrocarbon is attached to the short polyethylene glycol (PEG) through an ether bond and the PEG terminal has a free thiol or sulfhydryl group. Thiol can form new disulfide bond by exchanging disulfide bond with thiol group in protein. At the same time, Au-S bond can be formed by covalent modification of sulfhydryl group and nanoparticles. Peg can directly reach the surface of gold, mainly to improve the water solubility and biocompatibility of nanoparticles.
