C18-PEG-MAL

Synonyms: C18-PEG-maleimide; Polyethylene glycol octadecyl ether maleimide

The C18 hydrocarbon chain of C18-PEG-MAL is connected to the short polyethylene glycol through an ether bond, and a maleimide group (-MAL) is linked to the other end of the PEG. The MAL group can react with sulfhydryl (SH) or cysteine, thus this PEG modifier often modifies peptides and proteins involving SH. C18-PEG-MAL is an amphiphilic surfactant PEG modifier, which can be used to form micelles and drug delivery systems in order to enhance drug solubility and improve drug formulation and bioavailability. C18-PEG-MAL is soluble in some organic solvents such as DMSO and DMF, which needs to be frozen and stored in an inert gas environment.
