mPEG-Cholesterol (mPEG-CLS) is a unilaterally active PEG derivative. It is a lipophilic liposome with good water solubility. Cholesterol can adjust the fluidity of the phospholipid bilayer membrane, reduce membrane permeability, and reduce drug leakage; at the same time, it can maintain a certain degree of flexibility in the membrane, enhance the ability of liposome vesicles to resist changes in external conditions, and protect the phospholipids. The oxidation has a certain protective effect. Cholesterol linked by PEG has better water solubility. Cholesterized PEG derivatives can be used for cell membrane imaging, liposomes and drug delivery, and can also be used as liposomes to encapsulate drugs to improve circulation time.
