MAL-PEG-Plys are biodegradable polymer organic compounds conjugated by polyethylene glycol and polylysine. It is a linear amphiphilic block copolymer with Plys as the hydrophobic part and PEG as the hydrophilic part. Plys part has side chain free amine group and has good membrane permeability. MAL-PEG-PLYS can therefore be used as a carrier for certain drugs and is widely used in medical and pharmaceutical applications. Various reactive groups in Plys-PEG derivatives can cross-link with different molecules. The PEG portion contains maleimide groups. At pH 6.5~7.5, the maleimide groups can selectively react with thiol by means of Michael addition to form stable C-S bonds. In this way, MAL-PEG-Plys can be used to modify proteins, peptides, or other surfaces containing sulfhydryl groups.
