DSPE-PEG-MAL is a linear heterobifunctional PEG reagent consisting of DSPE phospholipids and maleimides at both ends of the molecular chain. It is a useful self-assembly reagent for the preparation of grafted or PEGylated liposomes or micelles, while also providing thiol or cysteine reactive maleimide groups. DSPE-PEG-MAL is an excellent liposome forming material for drug delivery, gene transfection and vaccine delivery. Polyethylene glycolation of phospholipids significantly improved the circulation time and the stability of encapsulated drugs. These materials can also be used for targeted drug delivery by modifying their surfaces with targeted ligands (e.g. antibodies, peptides).
