Background
Synonyms: Polyethylene glycol octadecyl pyridyldisulfide
C18-PEG-OPSS is an amphiphilic diblock copolymer. It is usually a solid powder or particle, which needs to be protected by inert gas, frozen and dissolved in most organic solvents, such as DCM, DMF, DMSO, THF and so on, but also has a good solubility in water. The C18 hydrocarbon is attached to the short polyethylene glycol (PEG) through an ether bond and the PEG terminal has an OPSS (ortho-pyridyl disulfide) group, also called PDP (pyridyldisulfide propionic acid), which is reactive with thiol, sulfhydryl, mercapto, SH or cysteine.
