Product Information

Description Acs-PEG5-propargyl is a PEG linker containing a sulfur acetyl group and a propargyl moiety. The sulfur acetyl group can be deprotected to produce a thiol compound. The propargyl group can react with azide-bearing compounds or biomolecules via copper catalyzed azide-alkyne Click Chemistry to yield a stable triazole linkage. The hydrophilic PEG linker increases the water solubility of the compounds in the aqueous media.
Synonyms S-acetyl-PEG5-Propargyl; Acetylthio-PEG5-Alkyne; S-acetyl-PEG5-alkyne; S-(3,6,9,12,15-pentaoxaoctadec-17-yn-1-yl) ethanethioate

Acs-PEG5-propargyl is a polyethylene glycol (PEG) derivative that incorporates a propargyl group, making it highly versatile for a range of bioconjugation and surface modification applications. Here are some key applications of Acs-PEG5-propargyl:

Bioconjugation: Acs-PEG5-propargyl is extensively used for the click chemistry-mediated conjugation of biomolecules. The propargyl group reacts with azide-functionalized molecules in a copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction, forming stable triazole linkages. This facilitates the attachment of various biomolecules, such as proteins, peptides, and nucleic acids, for research and therapeutic purposes.

Surface Functionalization: This compound is utilized for modifying surfaces of nanoparticles, sensors, and medical devices to enhance biocompatibility and reduce nonspecific binding. The PEG moiety provides antifouling properties, while the propargyl group enables further functionalization with bioactive molecules. This leads to improved performance and longevity of biosensors and other biomedical devices.

Drug Delivery Systems: Acs-PEG5-propargyl is employed in the development of advanced drug delivery systems. By conjugating drugs to PEGylated carriers via the propargyl group, researchers can enhance the solubility, stability, and controlled release of therapeutics. This application is particularly valuable in creating more effective and targeted drug delivery platforms.

Diagnostic Imaging: In diagnostic imaging, Acs-PEG5-propargyl is used to functionalize imaging agents for improved target specificity and circulation time. By linking imaging probes to PEGylated surfaces, the agents experience reduced immune clearance and enhanced tissue penetration. This improves the sensitivity and accuracy of diagnostic techniques such as MRI, PET, and fluorescence imaging.
