Description 3-hexanoyl-NBD cholesterol is a fluorescently-tagged cholesterol derivative with the hydrophilic NBD fluorophore attached to carbon 3. When incorporated in the membrane bilayers, the cholesterol is in the bilayers yet the fluorophore NBD is outside. It is used to study the metabolism of cholesterol derivative.
