Description (2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxan-5-yl)methyl 6-bromohexanoate is a small molecule with an acetonide protection group and a terminal bromide group. The bromide (Br) is a very good leaving group for nucleophilic substitution reactions. Acetonide protection can be removed by hydrolysis of the ketal using dilute aqueous acid.
