Synonyms: Acrylate-PEG-Succinimidyl Carboxymethyl Ester
Polyethylene glycol (PEG) compounds contain a polyether unit. They are generally biocompatible, non-toxic and stable in both organic and aqueous solutions, and so are extensively used in biological applications. Acrylate-PEG-SCM is a linear heterobifunctional PEG reagent with an acrylate and an activated NHS ester at each end of the molecular chain. In the presence of UV light or free radical initiators, acrylates can polymerize. SCM is an NHS ester, commonly known as succinimide carboxymethyl ester, which is highly reactive with primary amines and can form stable amide bonds. Acrylate-PEG-SCM can be used to introduce amine reactive functional groups into crosslinked PEG hydrogels.
